Face Lift Surgery to Correct Jowls
When you start to develop fine lines and blemishes on your facial skin, you have the option of using make-up as a means of concealing these signs of aging, at least for a while. However, when jowls begin to form, there aren’t many ways to hide them. Fortunately, Dr. David A. Sherris offers a number of surgical and non-surgical treatments that can help to improve the appearance of the jowls, rejuvenating the face and restoring the jawline. The most effective and longest-lasting of these treatments is face lift surgery.
Dr. Sherris is pleased to offer safe, customizable face lift surgery for jowls at his Buffalo, NY plastic surgery practice. This procedure, as part of a mini face lift, standard face lift or a comprehensive deep plane face lift, can help to take years off your overall appearance while making you look less tired and more youthful. In general, patients emerge from the surgery appearing refreshed and renewed, their natural beauty enhanced through Dr. Sherris’ combination of finely honed surgical skills and a keen eye for aesthetics.
Are you dissatisfied with your appearance due to the formation of jowls on your face? If so, we encourage you to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. David A. Sherris at The Clinic of Facial Plastic Surgery today.
What Are Jowls and How Do They Form?
As we age the nasolabial folds deepen and the cheek pads fall. As a result of these events, the lower cheek starts to droop beyond the jawline creating jowls or loose skin along the jawline. As time passes, the skin continues to lose more and more of its natural collagen and elasticity, which causes the jowls to become more prominent. Eventually, they will become a noticeable cosmetic issue.
If caught in their early formation, jowls may be improved non-surgically with injectable fillers. However, more pronounced jowls cannot be effectively treated with dermal fillers but only through face lift surgery, which addresses not only loose skin but the underlying structures of the face.
Face Lift for Jowls
While a mini face lift surgery addresses the muscles and tissues closest to the surface of the skin, a standard face lift and a deep plane face lift surgery accounts for the SMAS - superficial musculo-aponeurotic system - layer, as well as the fat pads, that underlie the cheek area. By repositioning the SMAS, fat pads, and skin to a superior position, Dr. Sherris is able to treat the root cause of jowls. This helps to produce results that simply cannot be achieved through non-surgical or skin only Q lift methods and results in a refreshed more youthful appearance.
While the healing period associated with face lift and deep plane face lift is longer than that associated with other face lift techniques, most patients find the results well worth it.
