Cheek Augmentation Surgery
Cheek augmentation surgery can help to give you a youthful appearance by filling out your cheeks. The procedure can also be performed to bring balance to the face and improve your overall appearance. If you're interested in having cheek implants placed at our Buffalo plastic surgery practice, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. David A. Sherris. In the meantime, here is a general overview of the cheek augmentation procedure to help you decide if this procedure is right for you.
What Is Cheek Augmentation Surgery?
Cheek augmentation is a procedure that involves the surgical placement of an implant to increase the fullness of the cheeks and improve the overall aesthetics of the face. There are different types of implants available for cheek augmentation. The size of the implant you choose should complement the shape of your face and bring facial contours into harmony with surrounding features. The decision on the size of the implant is best made between you and your surgeon. Dr. David E. Sherris has extensive plastic surgery experience and welcomes any questions you may have when we formulate your plastic surgery treatment plan.
Dr. Sherris offers both silicone and hydroxyapatite implants. Read on to learn about the differences between these implants.
- Silicone: Silicone is a popular implant material. Silicone implants can be removed at a later date in the event you decide you no longer want cheek implants.
- Hydroxyapatite: Hydroxyapatite implants cannot be removed. Hydroxyapatite implants gradually combine with the tissues of your face to become a part of you. This gives them a natural look and feel.
How is Cheek Augmentation Surgery Performed?
Cheek augmentation is often performed in combination with other plastic surgery procedures. Cheek implants are often placed along with chin augmentation, rhinoplasty, and lip augmentation. When this is the case, the implant may be placed through the incisions already created by the plastic surgery procedure in process.
If the cheek augmentation procedure is being performed alone, an incision is made in the lower eyelid or inside the mouth, beneath the upper lip. Once the incisions are made, the implants are placed in the proper location and the incisions are sutured closed. The cheek augmentation procedure is typically completed on an outpatient basis and is finished in about one to two hours, though this may not be the case if other procedures are being performed.
For our patients in Buffalo, facelift surgery is a possible alternative to cheek augmentation. Facelift surgery can also restore a youthful look by tightening the skin on the cheeks and jowls.
Am I a Candidate for Cheek Augmentation?
The cheek augmentation procedure, like all plastic surgeries, requires you to be in good physical health. It is important to discuss with your surgeon what you hope to achieve through this procedure so you can work together to create the right course of treatment. Schedule a consultation at The Clinic of Plastic Surgery for a personal evaluation to determine if cheek augmentation is right for you or which procedures would be best to fulfill your plastic surgery needs.
